Just a quick note to remind myself, and others, how we should say THANKS to the wonderful job the Federal Government and DPI is doing to protect this LUCKY COUNTRY from the spread of EI.
My husband and I drove our gooseneck horse truck from Melbourne to Townsville 5 days ago, through all the zones put in place to restrict movement of horses, and was not stopped once in the 2,700kl journey by either a stock inspector, a DPI officer, or a policeman.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reassuring for us nobody horse people that they are there to protect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree with you i live in an
amber zone and i have seen horses moving all over the place. Mainly in the last week. I know alot of these people and i have been reporting them to the DPI.
They might have permits i am unsure,but i am concerned that these complaints have not been followed up. Where are the police, yea the first few weeks they were on to movement but know they dont care.
Also i think the comment above should consider that you may have had a permit to. I think floats with permits should have a pink sticker on the back wich you could pick up from a local police station after the dpi has given you a permit. This would stop alot of concerns that everyone is getting around without permits.
Um....no laws saying that you can't tow your float where ever you like, just that they need to be disinfected before and then after travelling. Believe it or not, but many people use floats/goosenecks like a caravan to camp in, cart furniture in etc. Maybe, given your position, you'd be better off looking into why they weren't stopped, ESPECIALLY when LEAVING a purple zone. They don't sound like they were trying to sneak around anyone here, but just very surprised that NOT ONCE were they pulled over and inspected !!! No wonder EI is spreading when no one is being checked. It's people like these that bring these inadequacies in the system to light, so that people such as yourself can do something to rectify the problem. Lets hope the system gets a big kick up the back side, because at the moment it's looking like a huge joke.
Victorians towing a gooseneck or float can travel into NSW without a permit, but you need a permit to enter back into Victoria from NSW.ou
It's not as stupid as you read it ~ They obviously had a permit to do the travel or they wouldn't of done it!
I do hope you had a permit, if not you should hang your head in shame,you've probably managed to spread ei all along your route
what a load of crap they are aiming at you. if your float could spread ei simply by being driven from zone to zone what on earth do they think cars and semi's could be doing do as well?
just because its a horsefloat doesnt mean the EI virus would only hitch a ride on it alone surely?

Just letting everyone know the truck was empty. We were delivering it too its new owners. The interesting thing is that no permit was required, but they did tell me first to go to Scone and wash it!! I then said I was not going anywhere near, then they said another place, I said I was not going there either. Then they told me I would be going through all the zones, so I had to wash it as I came out. I asked where would the men be standing to meet me with the wash stuff? They said, oh no, I will have to do it all myself. I explained it was coming from Victoria, clean truck, no horses, did not matter, I still had to wash. I then asked if every truck will be required to do the same? She said no, THIS IS AN AIRBOURNE VIRUS!!!!!! Obviously this bug knows its truck!!!! The strange part is there were about 5 places in NSW that had big flashing signs that said restrictions for horses apply, and a phone number, that was it. We saw quite a few police, but they did not look sideways at us. Its not as if it is hard to notice!!?? Anyway, new owners were delighted.
