Re Mr Anthony Cummings statements 17/12/07

Mr Anthony Cummings spoke about the continued strangulation on the thoroughbred racing and being held to ransom yeah right . Well I for one find that hard to believe when you look at the racing NSW site there are 26 race meeting set down between 21st and 31st of this month and to be held all over NSW. Some trainers might have other horses they want back in work but after all they must still have plenty of horses in work for these race meetings to be programmed .
I don't think it wouldn't hurt the 20% upper class racehorse people and the DPI who after all are only worried about getting the racehorses moving all around the country allowing the government to make money from TAB turn over Let them all spare a thought for the 80% lower class non race horse people referred to as pleasure horse people, you know the ones I mean
The ones that are caught up in all the crap and movement restrictions the DPI has placed on them through no fault of their own after all it was a thoroughbred that bought EI into Australia and all other horse people are paying the penalty for it . It's the pleasure horse people being held to ransom by the DPI not the racehorses after all they can move around and do pretty well what ever they want even take the yearlings into VIC for the sales
While use second class pleasure horses aren't allowed out of the front gate even if they have had both vaccination shots.
And if anyone tries tell you you there isn't two sets of rules being one for the upper class racehorses and one for the lower class pleasure horse people you should ask what planet they come from.
You know the owners of the 20% made up of racehorses in a strangulation hold ,should think them self lucky because the other 80% of us are being held by the balls and it is hurting us more than the racing world . I hope racehorse owners and trainers have a nice xmas tripping around the country side making heaps of money Also a merry xmas and all the best for new year to the rest of us that can only dream about what we would like to be doing with our horses

Whilst I largely agree with you, I am sick and tired of people saying "oh, the t'bred bought EI into the country". What would you say if a warmblood or a riding pony bought it in?? I'm sure you'd be singing a different tune. Lets face it, just as many other breeds travel in and out of Australia. It's narrow mindedness and arrogant to keep going down that same old path. The race horse people have been given more rein than others, and no that is absolutely not fair, others should be able to travel if they have been vacinated. Not to mention I think shows that are already being cancelled for next year is just ridiculous. But just be original and stop 'BLAMING" who bought this horrible disease into the country, because it could have been anyone.
Oh and by the way, I'm a race horse trainer and I've yet to get to the races, so not ALL trainers have it easy!

By closing down the racing industry you would have put more people out of work. You small minde people soley blaming the racing industry ought to think about the 1000's of grooms and strappers that would be out of work. Then there would be more of us lining up at centrelink.
Not all trainers of race horses are upper class millionares.
I am a strapper in mudgee NSW and we have only just gone to our first race meeting in 4 months.
In my stable alone we employ 8 people, two of these girls have pleasure horses. They are greatfull to have kept their jobs through all of this.
Also alot of you that are complaining do not make money out of competing and carting your ponies around it costs you money.
Also the bigger show stables should have their clients paying vet bills and they are also still being paid a daily bording rate for keeping their horses weather they were out of work due to EI or not.

I know there are all breeds of horses come into Australia but do you think they would have let warmbloods, riding ponies or any other breed apart from thoroughbreds leave Japan in the middle of a flu out brake to come into Australia in the first place?? I think not, they wouldn't have been important enough they would have just had to wait where they were and do you think if the EI come in on another breed it would have been any differante no ,all other horses would be held up in the standstill the same as it is now, do you think think the racehorses would still be allowed to go racing yes they would , I understand some owners and trainers are doing it tough but on the other hand there are a lot of owners and trainers are having it easy But after all none of them are being affected to the extent pleasure horse owners are .
They aren't being paid $$$ for any horses they own and yes there are a lot of them doing it hard they carn't even get a permitt to move horses short distances to put them in a paddock with feed , no they have to stay where they are and the owner find the money somewhere to buy them feed
it's like the old saying money talks but unfortunaly in this case it's not the people that have pleasure horses .
We second rate horse people wouldn't want to upset the higher class racing people by expecting a fair go from the DPI by them putting us on an equal playing field with racehorses and being allowed to move around with our horses In saying that I don't mean anyone go anywhere but surely we should be given some movement freedom
