Absolute Shock
Dear Horse Deals,
I admit to absolute shock at the two Victorian horse sales with second hand horse gear, coming up within the next couple of weeks.
I would like to think that Victorian horse owners and lovers would be smart enough to simply be disgusted at the risks involved with visiting these sales, and show their commitment to helping stop the spread of EI by NOT going to either of these horse sales.
Let us hope intelligence shines through, and that both sales are a complete flop. Why have these sales not been stopped ? Because there is no law to stop them ???? So until laws can be put in place to cover these new situations, why cant the appropriate departments step in and force them to wait.
No, there is no law against stupidity, nor greed, but there should be laws to protect the rest of us horse owners from the greedy and the ignorant. How amazing in a most stupid way. I personally find it hard to comprehend that anyone would want to risk their horses by attending these sales. The racing industry would not hold a sale of horses and gear.....simply because they would not be allowed to nor would they want to.
The Royal Melbourne show has shown its commitment by canceling all horse sections . So why are the "average horse owners" risking these kind of sales, and why are they allowed to ?
Are we, the "casual riding horse owners" of so little consequence to the big picture that the "big wigs" ignore the risks we take with our ponies and horses and in the long run, everyone else's ?
No matter where you look, farrier's, dentist's, vet's, teacher's, students, club’s, trail ride business', breeders, etc, are taking precautions in all states including Victoria - and doing their best to help control the spread of EI, which is not in Victoria at this stage, because of people showing intelligence and diligence.
I for one cannot afford the vet costs involved with EI, after 12 months of drought, rising feed costs, and now looking in the face of another 12 months of drought, with a lack of farmers selling "last season's hay" to tide me through. I may not be a well-known stud or flashy racehorse owner, but half of my 15 horses are rescue or adopted, who have as much right to a healthy happy life as every other horse.
Disgusted owner of riding and rescue horses in Victoria.
Kindest Regards
Linda
