EI outbreak leaves Melbourne Cup hopeful stranded

Australia's racing industry is awash with hard luck stories at the moment as it struggles to deal with the devastating effects of the equine flu virus.

But the tale of Melbourne Cup hopeful Leica Falcon - placed fourth last year - and a horse that would have been one of the favourites, and his connections must rate as one of the unluckiest. Stabled at Corowa in the NSW Riverina region, the horse is one kilometre from the Victorian border yet that's enough to have it banned from crossing the River Murray to race in Melbourne.
