Dec 1st Movement for Thoroughbreds

Well I am sure everyone is well aware by now that the thoroughbred industry as of December 1st can move .

I personally think this is very unfair to us the 'little people' who have been used as government and racing industry guinea pigs in the red zone to help eradicate their dam virus that they allowed into our country.

I have not had EI yet , yet everyone around me has but somehow its managed to miss me, most of the racing animals in our area go right past my door, so does this mean I am now open as of Dec 1st to contract the virus ????????

How dare this government and the racing industry use as as guinea pigs and how disciminating is it to us !

But hey they have the money behind them to pull strings dont they ? but they tend to forget who takes in their horses when they break down or they are to slow or not earning them the money they should be earning for them.

Am I bitter ....hell yes !!!!!!!!

This government has caused a great divide in the recreational and racing industry.

Dont you think we have suffered enough ? I am sitting back watching so many people struggling and trying the best way they can to get through this disease and its very saddening and disheartening to watch floats ALREADY with racing stock go past my door.

These people are slowly dying and the look of despair in their eyes just makes me cry.

I think this is a grave injustice to all the 'little people' (hence the word little poeple, meaning the recreational horse industry even though we are the majority of horse owners in australia) in both QLD and NSW and so very unfair.

I feel if 1 horse moves no matter what breed, wether it be thoroughbreds trotters etc then EVERYONE should get the green light.

I appeal to all recreational to all recreational horse owners to jump up and down, involve the media, right to your local paper and your local palimantarian, the ombudsman, the government departments
we need to get back to our normal lives to with our equine friends.

I have also heard that we will not get back to any sort of normaility until at least next June.

Its up to us to make that point clear, if one moves all should be moving, no prefernece should be made to any breed of horse.

Angie the simple fact is the DPI and horse racing industry do not give a s--t about the rest of us and infact there actions toward us are only a token gesture to try and keep us quite/happy and to be seen politicaly to be doing something, as for the QPPHI one has to start wondering about there direction also , we have not heard one word from them about getting or sport up and running again other than getting allocated 26000 vacinations no word on how they inyend to get things moving

Agree totally Angie, and the setting up of a quarantine station at albury, would simply another avenue for the racing industry to "get moving" no matter how they dress it up!

The DPI are useless. They have NO idea whats going on in the real world. They sit in their offices with their "bible" telling us - well at the moment this states that you can't move. So when you point out that TB's will soon be getting green lights to go where ever they please, all they say is, oh I haven't heard that.
They continually rotate staff around in the disease control centre. They only stay in the position for a week then go and do something different. How the hell can anyone know exactly whats going on when they only do the job for a week. I was told to lodge a complaint to the "RAMS" manager. I said do they have a name....the answer was no, they also only stay in the position for a week. Its a JOKE. I personally would be embarrassed to say I was employed there if I was them.
They wonder why we get frustrated, angry and all the other host of emotions when we have to deal with this burocratic BS.
They've lost the big picture, and they have the nerve to blame us for its spread. We didn't bring the virus here, we didn't let it into our country. We pay huge taxes to some incompetant government department who seriously, by their own admission don't give a rats. They were told three years ago to do something, yet through their inaction & negligence, we are now suffering and playing their waiting game. I'm over playing their game, maybe it's time we made our own rules.
I told our local RLPB that I saw a gooseneck full of horses drive past my place on the weekend..their reply was how do I know that they didn't have a permit, I'm like, well how would I know (or anybody else for that matter) if they did. No one gets pulled up & checked anymore. They hardly got pulled up and checked in the early days of the infection, and now with all the special permits, I'm sure the police have better things to do than pull up every float.
There is NO unified front fighting this virus, so even thought they say they are winning this battle, I doubt they could really know. Especially with the racing industry being a law unto themselves.

Good on you Angie Totally agree.
At present we are having an
election by Media and there are
polls getting about everywhere.
How about we have a poll for "little people" on
the fairness of "movements allowed"
there is power in numbers
Cheers Maryanne

As someone who is paying over $1000 per month to have 2 horse in the Red Zone that can't supposedely be moved, I too am angry. I followed a number of horse travelling from the green zone back to the Red Zone after a big country Race meeting in QLD just this last weekend. WHERE IS THE EQUITY.......It's a Joke and makes a mockery of Biosecurity if you ask me.

I totally agree with Angie.I live 2 ks from Kembla Grange on Saturday racehorses from Purple zone are allowed to come to race .We are Amber zone. They must come through a red zone near Helensburgh. We sit indefinitely in our Amber zone unable to move even to another Amber zone. What happened to democracy? I have e-mailed so many different departments I,ve lost count. We must do something to get the powers that be to appreciate our position. Thinking seriously of putting horse on float with many of my colleagues and having a protest convoy !!!!!!!!!!! I,m as mad as hell also. Ros

Where in all of this is the Qld Perfomance and Pleasure Horse group who are supposed to be out there representing us Before every one jumps up and down YES they where succesful in gaining 26000 vacinations for the performance horse industry but what else have they done? the only time we hear from them we get the same information that the Qld DPI and QEFA publish, how about telling us what is going on with getting horse movement happening again , when and if it ever does what will we be required to do to move out of red zone and into the green zone to compete and then return, are we going to have go into so called quarantine every time, are we going to have to pay for this quarantine at inflated rates so they (government) can cover there costs for the race horses. We need positive answers from this group that tell us they are represnting us not the government line there is enough groups already doing that.

I completely agree with everything you said and the dpi are a joke, i sent this e:mail 5 days ago and iam still awaiting a reply although i have contacted on several occasions maybe i have found them out it makes for scary reading Enquiry/feedback: The rest of Queensland will be protected through use of a horse free or vaccinated horse buffer area which will prevent the natural lateral spread of disease. Please can you elaborate on the above concerning your wording HORSE FREE I assume your are referring to the ausvet report 1996 and 2007 glossary Stamping out: eradication procedures based on quarantine and slaughter of all infected animals and animals exposed to infection
