Horses allowed to return home from red to green?
I am a bit confused.
Horses from Morgan Park Warwick can travel home to the green zones??? Yes, don't get me wrong, I think it is terrible that they have been away from home for such a long time and it has affected their business, work and relationships. I know I would have been going crazy. But I don't understand how is it ok for some horses to leave the red zone and not others. Especially if they are from an area infected with EI. I think the ones that live inside the buffer zone and in and EI infected areas should have been able to go home, but not the ones that had to travel to green areas. This infection has already proved that it is very highly contagious and easily transmitted.
I have horses situated outside the yellow buffer zone but still in the red zone and can't bring them home. Luckily they are in the care of some wonderful people, but still at cost to me. What is the point of having a buffer zone, keeping us green, if horses that are in the red can come and go as they please. I know I will upset allot of people with my opinion, but what am I supposed to do (like allot of others - wait till my horses at home here contract it). We are along way from any infection, so why have they been allowed to bring there horses back here.

Because their horses have had the virus, gotten over it, and are no longer shedding it. They now have the highest immunity to the disease and are probably about the safest horses in the country right now.
As you said, your opinion will upset people as it is uninformed. These horses cannot spread the disease. It isn't favouritism - these people have had their lives turned upside down and a lot of them have suffered more than you or I have.
Also, they are not 'coming and going as they please'. They were given a permit to go DIRECTLY to ONE destination, and were given a special route to follow which if you read the report, added another 200kms onto the journey for some, just for added precaution.
I'm not worried about the horses spreading it, I'm worried about if they cleaned their rugs, feed bins, horse feed, floats, cars, themselves correctly. They had to go through the main area of EI to get home to where I am. They would have stopped for fuel etc.
A friend of mine was also at Warwick and all she had to do was wash her boots as she went in and out. What about the rest of her clothing. I know when they came home they took the direct route home straight through the worst infected areas, not around. I am currently working from 6am in the morning till 1am between 2 jobs without a day off to pay other people to look after the horses trapped away. I'm not intitled to any assistance from the government. The only reason they are still there is I was told to wait by the DPI and I would be able to move them with a Waybill, and not have to get a permit and vet check, but instead they included the shire into the red zone. I know there are allot of people just like me or worse off. My sister with 2 children lost her job and is now on centrelink and may loose her house.
