Are we to get EI in victoria?
Are we to get EI in victoria? In the last 2 days I have heard from a couple of sources that after the spring racing carnival, they are going to let the EI virus into Victoria. I would just like to know if anyone else has heard this. I really hope that this is not true.What could the DPI & the government hope to gain from letting it come into Victoria? Are they blind to not see the devastation it has caused in NSW & QLD and now they want to do it to us. I have friends in NSW & QLD whose horses have got it or are about to get it and I feel desparately sorry for those who are going through it but keep it contained to those areas at all costs.

Short answer - yes, it will probably get into Victoria, if it isn't there already. It is a virulent disease and efforts to stop it have so far been unsuccessful.

hell out of me. I live in the Yarra Valley, and my horse life
has been on hold since the start of september, as has a lot of us in the Yarra Valley, in an attempt to be responsible, should the EI get into Victoria. I agree with Geoff Sinclair, if they don't have the EI under control by the start of November (and it doesn't seem they will ever be able to stop it spreading due the participation of responsible public, which is an uncontrollable variable really) then Australia should start a vacination program for all horses,
and personally I feel that it should start with the states that don't have EI. We can't get on with our lives, we live in fear, and it is so depressing. To think that EI might be released after the spring carnival is scary. I don't want my beautiful and loyal horses to be sick, I want to protect them, and the vacination seems the only way. I would vacinate today if I was given the opportunity. The long term lung scaring from this disease is scary,
and I do not want my horses to experience this, from the result of
irresponsible people.

I beleive YES YES YES you watch as soon as the spring carnival is over. It will be in VIC if not already and kept secret to protect the Melbourne Cup...watch this space....
