Makybe Diva

Hi all Not so long ago someone wrote saying Makybe Diva and baby were facing EI. As it's almost Melbourne Cup time, does anyone know if this amazing lady and her offspring succumbed to EI? How did they fare? What about her unborn baby? horselover

Makybe Diva's winning form on the racetrack has carried over into the breeding paddock with the three-time Melbourne Cup winner and its new foal evading equine influenza, which has ravaged New South Wales' Hunter Valley.

Makybe Diva gave birth to a colt at the Coolmore Stud just days before the flu outbreak hit.

The mare is now in foal to the stallion Fusaichi Pegasus.

Coolmore Stud's general manager Peter O'Brien said Makybe Diva was fit and well.

"The interesting thing about her was we got the flu on the farm and she was never affected by it, nor was her foal," he said.

"In retrospect when we looked her up she had been vaccinated against the flu when she ran in Japan. That was an added bonus, but she's in great order and her foal is an outstanding foal."
