Recreation industry counts cost of horse flu

The thoroughbred racing industry may have gained some comfort from this year's successful Melbourne Cup but others in the equine industry say their plight has been ignored. Those dealing with recreational horses haven't received as much compensation as thoroughbred racing and the industry's confidence has never been lower.

Just follow this link and go done the page to the horse flu story which you can read or listen to.

At least for them, there have still been race meetings for them to go to. And they could still keep their horses in some form of work.
A lot of the pleasure horses are still locked up in shoe box sized areas. They also cannot be moved anywhere to spell or to be kept in some form of work or training.
So really the race horses have been dished out a better deal than us.

the race still have to be fit enough to race, thou. real city slickers that don't go out of the city, don't iunderstand what is going on out here and how much trouble it's caused everyone involved.
my horses have not feed!!! finding one hay bale is hard at times ( big square's) and this flu topped it all off. i was hoping to only have 2 horses to feed by now. while many don't have the pleasure of going out round the farm for a ride.
at least things are slowing down.
