Record yearling numbers to sale

RECORD catalogues have been put in place for the Melbourne Premier yearling sale and the Magic Millions' Conrad Jupiter-sponsored series in March.

William Inglis and Son has announced 818 yearlings have been listed for the Melbourne sale, in two sessions on March 1-6 inclusive.
The 30 per cent increase in numbers has forced an extra day into the schedule.
The sale will have the $500,000 Inglis Premier Race at Caulfield on March 1 as a springboard to the Oaklands Junction sale.
Magic Millions Sales has a two-tiered sale of 1811 yearlings listed for eight selling days at its Gold Coast headquarters from March 24 - an evening session to follow the MM Classic race meeting.
The first four sessions of the MM sale comprise the select session, but with the numbers for this session rising by about 200 to hit the 900 mark for a national record.
The MM Gold Coast sale, normally in progress in the second week of January, had to be moved to an Easter Monday starting date because of the impact of the equine influenza outbreak within the racing and breeding industry.
* THE global schedule of major bloodstock sales begins in Kentucky, US, today with selling at the first of seven continuous sessions of the January Sale of All Aged Horses at the Keeneland Associaton's Lexington pavilion.
